1Pro-Form Doesn't Treat its Customers Well
By donna myers
I used it three times and the belt went out of alignment. I'm only 150 and didn't go above level 4, so it's not like it was hard use. I followed the instructions in the manual and online to adjust, but no luck. It was crooked and continued to remain crooked. I called Pro-form customer service and after waiting on hold for 20 minutes, a nice guy answered the phone. He told me to try tightening it all the way then loosening it the same, then running it to see if it aligned; no luck. He said one of the bolts was probably stripped and they could send me a new one. I asked why a bolt would be stripped on a brand new machine, and he said he didn't know.

"You just need to unscrew it and screw in the new one," he instructed. So I asked him to stay on the phone while I did it. Turns out the bolt wouldn't come out of the hole because it was being blocked by the plastic bumper covering it. "It should just fall out when you've unscrewed it all the way," he said. I know how to unscrew a bolt, but continued turning it just in case. "No, it's blocked," I told him. He checked with someone and said "They said it should just fall out." I checked around and there was a screw underneath the plastic part. "Oh, he said, then you probably need to unscrew that." This didn't help my confidence in the company. I tried unscrewing it but it started to strip so I figured I should leave it alone.

In light of this, and the fact that I had no faith at this point that the new bolt would actually do the trick, I asked if someone could come fix it. He said they were only allowed to send the bolt. "But I'm within my 90-day parts and LABOR warranty," I told him. He said he'd need to get supervisory approval because it happens a lot and they're "cracking down" on sending people out to do labor. Like I said, nice kid, and I appreciate his candor. But this is not a company I want to do business with.

That said, aside from the belt being screwed up, the rest of the treadmill was nice. If you know how to fix things on there when they break and don't anticipate interacting with Pro-form, it might be a good treadmill for you. Personally, this experience made me like Amazon more because it was a no-hassle return. They're sending someone to pick it up.

5Good company, good treadmill
By Sam Diego
First off, a little back story that became relevant... This is my second attempt to buy a treadmill. The first time was direct from NordicTrack, which is made by Icon Fitness. Unfortunately the machine had been severely damaged by FedEx so it never reached my doorstep. But, I was happy with the way Icon handled it, refunding my money immediately.

Fast-forward to now and I decided to take my chances again having one shipped. I sort of wish I had bought it in the store, in hindsight, but I did save the cost of local sales tax. It's really nice to be able to return something to a store though if it doesn't work. Otherwise you'll have to figure out how you're going to get this huge lump back to Amazon...

I don't normally put anything about the shipping in my review, but shipping an item like this is a big part of buying it. It ships freight, and which company you get will probably vary. Pilot was the company that shipped it this time and they were very nice and called ahead to make sure I would be home. Unfortunately the treadmill was damaged when I got it, which I didn't notice until it was almost fully assembled. Part of the side panel on the bottom is broken. It's purely cosmetic, so that's not a big worry. But the left rear foot was completely ripped out of the screws. Unusable without duct tape.

A quick email to ProForm and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is also an Icon product (hadn't noticed when I was buying). Naturally they were happy to send whatever replacement parts I needed (said they would be here in about a week). So here's a double plug for Icon, they really handle things when it doesn't go so well. I wish it was easier to tell which products they make.

The treadmill itself is great. I was able to assemble it by myself, as others have said. I think putting the control panel on is the hardest part, as it seems like it's not going to fit, but you just have to keep positioning it until it's lined up just right. Also pay attention to when it says to fully tighten the screws that you were supposed to only partially tighten when you first put them in. A couple of them become inaccessible when assembly proceeds. I also thought it was odd that they have you remove some screws, throw them away (into a jar in the garage if you like) and then put different, seemingly identical screws in their place. But, whatever.

I agree with other reviews that say the heart rate monitor is useless. Reads 50 and then suddenly 185 and back down to 70. But if you're serious about fitness you'll either know your body well enough to not need it, know how to do your heart rate manually, or have a separate monitor that you use for all your workouts. Based on experience, I do believe the calorie counter to be reasonably accurate, even though it doesn't ask for your age or weight, et cetera.

The only other thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that while the treadmill bed is held in the folded position by a huge pin, the huge pin is held on by two dinky little screws going into maybe 1/8" of metal. I can just see one of my kids leaning a bit too heavily on it and squashing the other or himself (the manual implies that it weighs 45 pounds). If it feels like it's going to be an issue I plan to drill all the way through the upright and put a couple of long bolts with lock nuts in there. I'm sure that will immediately void the warranty. Safety issue trumps that. Another option would be to install a safety chain or strap of some sort.

Overall pretty happy. This will be great in the summer when it's over a hundred outside and especially for winter when it's too slushy and icy to ride my bike.

3ProForm Treadmill: Considerations Before You Buy
By Jim In Alaska
ProForm Treadmill: Considerations Before You Buy

About two months ago I purchased a ProForm treadmill. While I have been pleased with the product, I encountered several "surprises" which other prospective customers should know about as they consider a purchase:

* "Space Saver design; folds vertically for storage" (from ProForm's advertisements) -- Really?

** I was disappointed that the treadmill did not fold vertically, as advertised. If it had stored vertically, directly over its base, it would take up about 20% less space than it does. Instead of folding vertically, the deck folds up to an angle of maybe 60 or 70 degrees -- and hangs out from the base into the room. Don't let the size of the small base brackets fool you into thinking that that will be all the space the treadmill will take-up when stored.

** Additionally, the on/off power switch is located on the front edge of the motor shroud -- which means that the front of the treadmill must be located away from the wall so that you can get to the power switch. (If I remember right, the manual says that the treadmill should be placed two feet away from walls and other objects in all directions.)

* You have to unplug the treadmill when it's not in use (from ProForm's user's manual) -- Really?

** The owners manual says that the treadmill needs to be unplugged between uses to prevent the premature failure of the control board. Apparently the on/off power switch on the front edge of the motor shroud is only a soft-off switch -- that is, electricity is still being used to power the control board and perhaps other stuff. (There's no wiring diagram in the owner's manual, so it's hard to know what is still energized when the treadmill is "off".) In any event, you will need an easily accessible outlet to plug and unplug the machine with each use.
--

Assembly: I didn't have any trouble assembling the treadmill. While not perfect, the instructions are pretty good. If buyers are patient, take time to read the instructions, think about what they are doing, and are not "mechanically impaired" (that is, they don't know which end of a screwdriver to use), they should be able to assemble it without problem. However, it will probably take a few hours (-- I spent about 3 hours, but I was working alone and at a leisurely pace.)

Heart Rate Monitor: The heart rate monitor (built into the handbar) is not reliable. Occasionally it works relatively well (that is, it has accurate and stable readings), while most of the time it fluctuates wildly (for example, with the heart rate being reported as 64, a few seconds later as 176, 154, 97, etc.)

Durability: I've only had the treadmill for a couple of months, so I can't rate durability. I haven't had any problems -- but my expectation is that a treadmill should last at least 10 years (-- my last treadmill was about 15 years old when we moved and left it behind, so I expect I should get a similar lifespan from this or any treadmill).
--

Ratings are always very subjective. This treadmill meets my needs, but I'm disappointed about the misleading space saving advertising. Additionally I consider the location of "soft-off" switch on the front of the motor shroud as a very poor design (as it could have been placed on the control panel where I would be convenient for users). I am also troubled by the requirement of plugging and unplugging the treadmill between each use; it would have been easy for a "hard-off" power switch to have been mounted in a convenient place on the treadmill. Because of these advertising and design issues, I'm rating this as 3-stars.

Note: ProForm makes many models of treadmills, only a portion of which are advertised on Amazon. The size of the running decks and motors vary from model to model, as well as the electronic console features. The specific model which I purchased (for about $1,000) is not listed on Amazon. However, the engineering design is the same on all of the models. People looking for space-savings and convenience will want to consider the design issues I have identified -- and should watch for similiar issues in treadmills by other manufacturers.

5Not bad at all
By Dee ML
I am a college student, and I am very used to the gym at my school with the electric treadmills . I wanted to try a manual version because having the treadmill at home for the summer would be more convenient then shuffling to and from my campus just to use the gym. I have never used a manual treadmill and was biased to the electric -- and thought wrongly about the both of them as well.

Basically, an electric treadmill goes a set speed and your job is to catch up. With a manual treadmill you are powering it, so you control the intensity of the workout.

I usually walk a steady 3-4 miles per hour. On a manual treadmill I could not get a great, heart pounding, sufficient workout setting the speed to 3-4 miles per hour and walking along to the set speed of the belt. Minutes on the manual treadmill, I could definitely feel it. It's great because it makes you feel like you are actually doing something, but definitely a tough job after a while.

I'd say give it a try. This is a very good quality product and was extremely easy to set up. I don't regret the purchase.

4A good treadmill, a great workout - but know what to expect and how to use it
By Rachel Graham
I got this treadmill to supplement a workout routine that already contained a lot of advanced cardio. I consider myself a high-intermediate/advanced exerciser in very good cardio-vascular shape, so I took this into account when I read other reviews for this treadmill. I wanted to address a few of the other points people have cited as cons:

1. Height of handlebars/width and length of track: I'm 5'4", so it's not really an issue for me, but unless your arms are really long, if you're much taller than 5'7", you will find yourself stooping. The nature of the work you have to do to move the belt on a manual treadmill has you leaning slightly forward anyway, but extra height will mean you have to bend and lean, and this might be too strenuous on your back. The track is wide and long enough to accommodate the stride of a correspondingly average/short person, so again taller people may find themselves limited.

At my height, I can comfortably stride across the middle 2/3 of the track (more lean forward, more work in hamstrings and glutes, so more oxygen demand), full track (long, fast strides, higher intensity bursts), or at the top 1/3 of the track (standing more straight, shorter stride, less work for a recovery period).

2. Accuracy of the mileage/calorie/time counter: Well, the time is accurate, but nothing else is. I walked on mine while wearing a pedometer calibrated to my stride and the mileage was low by at least 30%. I don't have a way to accurately calibrate calories burned, but my heart rate is consistently in the 70-80% max range after the first five minutes on the treadmill; there's no way I only burn 187 calories (what it measured) in 1 hour of walking at that level of work. I use the counter only for timing. When that breaks (it eventually will, as it's pretty cheap), I'll just use a stopwatch.

3. Incline of belt: Manual treadmills rely on the belt's incline to provide a downward force to overcome static friction and minimize kinetic friction so the belt moves as smoothly as possible. The belt on this treadmill is inclined at 8%, which is fairly steep for a walk, as you'll notice after about 5 minutes on the machine. Your legs really have to work to make the belt move, and you have to be careful not to over-use your hip flexors. There is an upper weight limit of 250 lbs for the machine, which is part a load limit for the frame and part a reasonable limit for friction on the belt; the heavier you are, the harder you will have to work to move the belt as well, so keep this in mind.

The incline means you will tire quickly if you don't have much cardio conditioning, but also means you will get much better results if you keep the belt and walking platform well-lubricated. WD-40 works in the short term but doesn't last very long, and the composition of WD-40 may wear the belt out faster. It's probably advisable to get a silicone lubricant designed for treadmills.

Other reviewers have commented that they can get a less intense workout by putting a platform under the back of the belt - that's true, and you'll have to push harder with your feet, but you might also notice the belt wearing faster than you would expect because of the increase in friction.

4. Running: It's really difficult to run on a manual treadmill because of the way you have to push with your feet and hold the bars to maintain stride, and most sites I've read don't recommend it. I do just fine walking and altering intensity at regular intervals.

5. Belt slipping: The instructions give suggestions to remedy this, and they seem to work for me. First, you can adjust tension with two allen-type screws on the back. If the belt slips toward the flywheel when you walk, you simply have to walk to the left side of the belt until it readjusts itself.

In summary, this treadmill is a good tool to supplement an intermediate-to-advanced cardio-vascular workout if you're short-to-average height and have NO leg/hip problems. You don't have to be in great shape to start walking on it, but the nature of the movement means if you're just starting exercising you might not be able to do more than 10-15 minutes at first. It's not a strolling walk; it's more a hike. Expect to have sore hip flexors until you get used to the stride. Take care of the belt and tighten the screws on the frame on a regular basis and you can probably expect to have this machine for several years.

3Good value if you just plan to use for walking
By MF
My first manual treadmill, and a decent product. Does take some time to get use to. Don't buy this if you expect to use this for running. Given that the treadmill needs to be at a small incline so your motion pushes the belt down and around, runnning is extremely difficult. Works well if you plan to use for fast walking in your home.

4Good for its function
By CUNPDX
This is my 3rd treadmill over the years, so I'm familiar with the competition. Treadmills in this class will last 2-5 years if you are lucky, and I understood that when purchasing it. I selected this one because of the price, and because it is only 62 pounds - easy to move around. My prior treadmills were around 200 pounds, and I will tell you that is a problem sometimes. This one arrived in tact, and most of it was already together. Mainly just have to connect the arms and display to the body. The instructions are not accurate, but I was able to just look at it to make sure I was doing the right thing. It really was pretty easy, and I am not a mechanically inclined kind of guy. Be aware that you will end up with a screw that is not used and so forth; the instructions are not perfect and were probably written for a prior model. My only warning (not really a complaint) is that the treadmill measures in Kilometers and not miles. I'll have to figure out how many miles = how many kilometers and then setup my workout routine. I am an avid treadmill user and generally peak at 6.5 MPH during my workout. This treadmill goes to 7.5 MPH tops. That is just enough for me. Because it is light I can move it around as I need to do so. I will post another review after I have used this for a few months. I can tell immediately that this is better than its predecessor, which didn't have great reviews (it was just too small and lacked power). Stay away from the Merit treadmills - they are a b**ch to put together. Also, I am not a big proform fan. They are really loud and heavy. Hope this helps in making your decision.

2This Has Pro's and Con's ...
By Samantha G.
Treadmill arrived on time with quick delivery.

Box was damaged with some slight scratching on the machine and one bent piece that we managed to re-straighten most of the way. This issue would be easily solved if the company would invest a couple of dollars on bubble wrap.

It comes with almost NO protective packaging whatsoever. Be warned, if you want to return it, YOU have to pay for the shipping back, as well as return it in its original box (even if that box is un-useable). They also sent the wrong set-up instructions.

Pro's:

1) Small/compact - Doesn't take up the room of a regular sized treadmill.

2) Very light weight - At 1/3 the weight of your average treadmill (approx. 65lbs compared to 200lbs), great if you live upstairs or move often.

3) Quiet operation - Belt and motor only.

4) Good for walking your dog as well as yourself. ;)

Cons:

1) Light weight - This is both a pro and con, as it does not feel as sturdy/stable as its heavier counterparts.

2) Good for walking only - See con #1. Although you technically can run on it, due to its shakey stability, I wouldn't recommend it.

3) Loud control panel - When in operation, the motor and belt are very quiet. However, the beeping that changing the speed makes is NOT. Don't plan on using this if someone in your household is sleeping. (Husband had to disconnect it)

4) Slippery belt - I have no idea what this belt is made of but its quite slippery. Another reason to only walk.

5) KM instead of Miles - This isn't a big deal for me as I walk just for time. But if you're tracking distance, it may be annoying.

6) Control panel not lit - There is no backlight to the control panel so seeing anything on it is difficult, even in a lighted room.

7) Non cushioned - Higher end treadmills have a shock absorbing deck for joint protection. No such luck here. Its just belt on plastic. Which also makes each step drag a bit, even with a well lubricated deck.

8) Overpriced! - This machine is worth somewhere between $150-$175. What you're paying for is the lightweight. If you can manage 119lbs, I would suggest getting a mid-range model like the Weslo Cadence G 5.9 Treadmill. They are sturdier, have stronger motors (so you can run), cushioning and more bells and whistles for about the same price.

If I didn't live up 4 flights of steep stairs, I would have gotten the Cadence treadmill instead. But the extreme light weight of this model was the selling point for me.

UPDATE:

Due to the Non-cushioned deck, I ended up selling this machine on Craigslist. My joints just hurt to bad to keep it. I would NOT recommend this treadmill.

4Confidence Power Walker
By shona
Usually I dont review my purchases but this one I want to coz I was not able to find any. Got this machine in time. It is a powerful walker for sure, nice and sturdy. Takes up much less space. Folds up for storage very easily(One screw) Very easy to move from one place to another very light weighted. Good option to have motorized treadmill than manual. But it does work in both modes (Manual and electric) It says it goes upto 3.7 miles only but it does goes much above that speed ( I tried upto 6.7 miles) and it comes with 600W motor power. Only thing which stops me to give five stars is that it does not have side bars, I keep it close to wall for support. But then I knew what I have ordered. Hope this helps.

3It does the trick...
By kailee c henson
this treadmill is LITTLE, and not very powerful, but for the price and what I'm using it for--winter's just around the corner, and I'm not a big fan of running outside in the snow--it'll definitely do the trick. It's just fast enough for a light jog, and it's almost easier to jog on than walk (it's not very smooth...), and if you're over 5'7 and think you'll want/need something to hold on to you're going to end up hunched over (though I don't think it even goes fast enough to need the rail). If I didn't just want this for the couple months a year that I can't be outside, I'd return it, but I think it'll be good enough to keep me in shape until spring.

5BASIC TREADMILL
By Karen Watson
Paradigm Fitness Walking Electric Treadmill
Looking for a basic treadmill? Check out this one! It is exactly what I was searching for: no frills, level walking area, monitors time, distance, calories & walking speed. I agree that the walking area is short but I am 5'3" which works perfectly for me. I can see that it may be a problem for those with long strides.

It weighs 100 pounds which required my nephew's strength to carry into the house. The assembly is fairly easy. The walking area/belt is already assembled. The arms & legs have to be attached (easy). The display unit has to have its electric connections connected (fairly easy). Then attach the display unit to the designated front bar (also fairly easy). You are supposed to apply the enclosed oil to the belt once a year (already done before it ships for the first year). This item is supposed to hold a 350 pound person. I think it would.

My only complaint about this treadmill is that it is very difficult to restart after pulling the "kill switch" (which I did test). I followed the directions in the booklet which comes with this and it still took several manual restarts before the treadmill would operate. I repeated this several times to see if it still followed this pattern and it does. However, it is very easy to power the treadmill down or just hit the stop switch to stop it so I cannot see a real need for the kill switch.

I let my feet roll of the belt and still had no problems regaining balance ( I am 62 years old & not as agile as once was). Of course, I would never allow children or animals around this without adult supervision while it is running.

The electronic display has a button to start and stop the machine as well as a control to increase/decrease the speed & mode, reset, set buttons all which function properly. It also displays the speed, time, etc. On the right arm are buttons to increase/decrease speed. On the left arm are buttons for on/off & mode. It is very easy to hit these buttons and I have shut down the machine many times by accidentally hitting the off/on button. The machine has to run a minimum of 4 minutes before it is turned off or you have to do the manual shut down/restart (a pain in the uh-huh). I have put a wire near this button to keep my hand from hitting the button accidentally.

I had a treadmill years ago which was too loud to hear tv nearby. This treadmill is fairly quiet. I have no problems watching tv while walking and can talk on phone with no problems

I needed a level treadmill as I have several problems with a foot. This treadmill is great for my needs. I will watch to see how it works a year from now. So far I love it!

1DO NOT BUY - PIECE OF JUNK
By doktortelevision
For the 2 months I used this treadmill - I really LOVED it. I'm 5'3" and it's a perfect size for me and my apt. I wouldn't buy it if you're much taller as the walking platform is very short. But for me it was perfect. I have a bad ankle and this helped enormously in rehab-ing it.

WARNING - Treadmill came in a box that was completely destroyed. Huge hole punched thru the box. But the treadmill worked fine once assembled.

2 Months after purchase - The treadmill seized while I was on it and the platform sputtered. I had to jump off of it. Displayed flashed E1. Treadmill wouldn't restart. I called the phone number at the bottom of the treadmill to see what the problem was.

Paradigm sent me a new computer board but that failed to fix the problem.

Even though it's still under warranty Paradigm refused to replace it saying that Amazon should replace the treadmill not them. Amazon doesn't issue refunds after 30 days so I'm stuck in limbo waiting for Amazon to resolve this with Paradigm.

----------------

UPDATE - Amazon AWESOME in dealing with this situation. Worked it out with Paradigm. Paradigm is honoring the warranty. Shipping new treadmill by fed ex.

YAY for Amazon's customer service folks. The best in the business.

--------------

UPDATE

Only 1 month after replacement treadmill arrived it stopped working. That's 2 treadmills that did not even last 3 months.

DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK

--------------

Finally got refunded from Amazon for the total amount. As always Amazon's Customer Service is AMAZING. Truly the best. Unlike this treadmill which is the WORST. DON'T BUY THIS TREADMILL.

5Perfect Choice
By Rick Harnasch
After reading numerous reviews of treadmills, and after cheking out a number of them at retail stores in person, I chose the Pardigm Treadmill. The best price of ANY place was Amazon. I realize I just happen to live close to a point which made shipping unbelievably fast, but even if it took more than several days it would have been alright and it would have been worth the wait.

I agree with all the positive comments that other people had to say about this product in their reviews, and I experienced none of any kind of negaitve things that only a few encountered.

It was as easy to "assemble" as many people had said. It took just a few minutes and required nothing more that a screwdriver, a pair of pliers and the allen wrench supplied in the box. It comes already assembeld for the most part. Very little left to do to put it into operation.

There are treadmills from very low to extreme prices, but none could have satisfied my requirements more than this Pardigm.

It is exceptionally well made. The controls have been placed where they are convenient. You will be able to move and store it easier and better than countless others.

I will highly recommend the Paradigm Treadmill. After a little over one month's use, I can feel poitive physical results.

Whether novice or experienced in personal excercise, this treadmill will provide the excercise you are looking for.
The range of speeds at the lower ends will give any older user safe and comfortable use.

I feel like I sure made the right choice. Actually, there were too many choices available, so selecing one was not easy. But, from so many alternatives out there, and at a fantastic price through
Amazon, the Pardigm really was the perfect choice.

4410 treadmill
By aldwin
These would be a great treadmill but you need to buy ACL-SOL-50 high purity silicon oil from amazon to lubricate the treadmill belt every 50 miles of running through your treadmill in order not to break the control board. We used our 410 treadmill for almost 6 months without lubricating the treadmil belt until the treadmill was no longer functioning. I decided to order the parts which cost me $89.00. Now more than 1 year that we are using our treadmill without any single problem. If you don't know the proper maintenance of the treadmill just watch videos from youtube. When you order the control board from the manufacturer it didn't come with the warranty like any other electronic parts. Make sure that you will do the routine maintenance lubrication of the treadmill belt.

1Terrible Product With The Worst Customer Service Experience
By S. Rickmeier
We purchased this machine on 2/16, brought it home and spent about 2.5 hours (taking our time) to put it together. It was cheap (Walmart for $349) and it's definitely not the best quality. Several welds were poor and one screw was stripped already. But I knew I wasn't buying a top of the line treadmill - I just wanted something cheap and easy. We got it put together, but it was a "dud". The panel lights up, the clock starts, but nothing else works. The incline wouldn't move, the belt wouldn't move. The motor made a slight hum for a few seconds and that was the only sound we got out of it aside from the beep of buttons. We tried a few of the troubleshooting suggestions in the manual to no avail. Frustrating, to say the least.

I had to wait until today to call customer service (Icon Health & Fitness). I waited on hold for more than 25 minutes only to get a very rude customer service associate. I explained what happened and each thing I would respond with, he would get argumentative with me. It was a surreal phone call, to say the least. After a few minutes of this, I told him that I thought he was behaving rudely and he hung up on me. So, I called back and again waited more than 20 minutes for someone. The second agent wasn't much friendlier and didn't have a word to say when I explained that the fellow before him hung up on me. He walked me through some troubleshooting scenarios and determined that because the red LED on the motherboard/powerboard wasn't flashing, that it wasn't telling the motor to power on. But, the part was out of stock and would be three weeks before they could even ship it. I read a few horror stories about customers of theirs getting the run around for weeks and weeks until it was too late to return their items. So, I declined and am packing this up to take it back to Walmart. I will not be exchanging it nor waiting for eons for a part to show up. Not looking forward to disassembling it and lugging it back out there, but it has to be done.

Unfortunately, Icon Health and Fitness is the service center for most of the popular brands of fitness equipment, so I'm going to have a hard time finding a brand of treadmill that I won't have to deal with them, but I don't care how long it takes to find one. When will companies realize that good customer service breeds loyalty and positive word of mouth?

4Happy with it so far
By G. Long
I'm not rich, so this was the best treadmill with an incline option I could find in my price range after my old one finally bit the dust after 14 years of service. I read all the reviews, pros, and cons of various treadmills in my price range and decided on this one. I bought this at Wal-Mart back in March and decided to wait until now before writing a review. I followed the advice of previous reviewers and bought treadmill lube to use on it for every 50-100 miles of use (manual tells you how to check mileage on it) and bought a surge protector for it. I do turn the treadmill off and unplug the surge protector after each time of use. I've been using this treadmill about 4 days per week and have had great performance so far. Only problem I had when first using it was accidentally hitting the pulse checker bar with my knuckles while jogging - this caused the belt to stop, display/counter to shut off, and the incline to raise all the way to 10 and then decline back down to 0 before resetting. This urked me since I lost track of time exercised and calories burned. I just make sure now to keep back a bit on the belt and not swing my hands near the bar.

Lubing the treadmill was fairly simple (once I finally got the blasted oil to come out of the bottle - I left a review on here for that)... Here is a link to a video on how to do that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiEZDNe0F8Q

I think, as long as you lube the belt routinely and keep it unplugged when not in use, you should have a nice long life out of this treadmill.
